Bruce and I are Minnesota natives, so one of our favorite summer activities is to go Up Nort’ to escape the summer heat. When we do, our destination is often the town of Grand Marais, MN and the surrounding area. The name Grand Marais, which means Great Marsh in French, was given to the town by the French fur traders in the early 1800’s. It is a quaint harbor town on Lake Superior that offers plenty to do for both the outdoor enthusiast and for those that prefer a more ‘civilized’ camping experience. My Favorite Backyards – So Far
One of the things I love to say to people while they are trying to process what my life must be like living in a Travel Trailer is, “Life is still life with all it’s ups and downs, my backyard just changes on a weekly basis.” Here is my list of backyards to revisit: Continue reading “My Favorite Backyards – So Far”
Military Campgrounds – Serving Those Who Serve Us
We’ve camped in many places over the years. State parks amongst trees and lakes, beaches with white sand, and at theme parks surrounded by roller coasters. But imagine camping on an active military base, with the adrenaline rush of fighter jets zooming by just a short distance above the trees. That is just one of the things you may experience while camping at one of our nation’s 247 military campgrounds. Continue reading “Military Campgrounds – Serving Those Who Serve Us”
The Grand Canyon
The Grand Canyon is awe inspiring. The vastness of this great chasm, carved over millennia through the rocks of the Colorado Plateau is simply hard to comprehend. It is 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide and over a mile deep. It was established as a national park by congress and Woodrow Wilson in 1919. The national park is split in two parts by the canyon: the North Rim and South Rim. Nearly five million people Continue reading “The Grand Canyon”

It’s almost Christmas time! If you live “up north” like Bruce and I, this is the time of year that the camper is nestled snuggly under a blanket of white, while visions of campfires dance in your head. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t dream about a camping Christmas. So in the spirit of the season we went searching for campgrounds to help you make the season bright. Continue reading “Christmas Campgrounds”
Mount Rushmore
Located in the Black Hills of South Dakota, Mount Rushmore is definitely a modern marvel of epic proportions. Bruce and I have made the pilgrimage to see the ‘Shrine of Democracy’ several times and it never fails to impress us. Continue reading “Mount Rushmore”

Casino Campgrounds
Are you looking for a campground where you can go for a quick weekend trip? Bruce and I have recently discovered that casino campgrounds can provide an inexpensive and fun place to escape to when we want to get away on short notice. Sometimes we don’t even pack any food because there are ample dining opportunities in the casino! Continue reading “Casino Campgrounds”
State Resort Parks
Far from the no-frills, no-hookup camping of yesterday, many campgrounds at state parks are going high end and packing in the amenties like pools and mini-golf. Some are also starting to offer full hookup sites, have full service comfort stations and camp stores so you can pick up ice or the items that you forgot to bring. Here are a couple that caught our eye. Continue reading “State Resort Parks”
Campgrounds with Theme Parks
Let’s face it… Theme parks rock! When you can mix a day (or two or three) at a theme park with a night (or two or three) at a campground, that is pure heaven on earth. Here are some theme parks that also have a place for you to spend the night under the stars in your RV or tent. Continue reading “Campgrounds with Theme Parks”
